A YEAR ago, PETE MURRAY was virtually unknown on the Australia music scene.
But since the release of his debut album Feeler , Murray has propelled to become one of the country's most popular new singer-songwriters.
``It's been good.
I can't complain about anything,'' Murray said.
``Things are going really well for me - better than I thought actually.
It seems to be growing bigger all the time and doesn't show any signs of showing down.
'' Murray originally started out his profession as a rugby league player.
But after sustaining a number of injuries, he decided to pursue guitar as his new hobby.
With a passion for NEIL YOUNG , Murray said he tries to bring elements of Young's music together with the intensity of PEARL JAM and the groove of BEN HARPER into his own sound.
``When I recorded this album, I wanted to get a bit of a triangle of Neil Young, Pear Jam and Ben Harper.
``I wanted to add those three elements together and create some strong melodies in my own sound.
'' When his talent became more apparent, Murray relocated from Brisbane to Melbourne where he has watched his career thrive to its current state.
Murray's promising career was cemented in October when he received two ARIA award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Blues And Roots Album.
A growing fanbase has also seen Murray spend much of the past few months on the road.
``For about the past three or four months I have done a lot of touring, so I have been fairly busy.
``I'm trying to write some new material in my spare time but I haven't had a lot of that lately.
We may throw in a few new numbers on this tour and see what sort of response we get.
'' Murray will perform at the CAMBRIDGE HOTEL tomorrow night with his four piece band.
