BUDDING filmmakers will culminate 24 hours of hard work when the annual SHOOT OUT filmmaking competition comes to an end this weekend.
Since debuting in 1999, the competition has become a major event and not only attracts entrants from around Newcastle, but from across Australia and overseas.
Final judging for the competition will be held at CLUBNOVA PANTHERS NEWCASTLE on Sunday when the top 10 films are screened.
Filmmakers are given just 24 hours to make a seven-minute film and are only allowed to use in- camera editing.
The competition will kick off at 9pm on Friday.
The best film will win a $10,000 industry package and $4000 cash and prizes will also be awarded for best direction, best script, best sound design, best art direction, best comedy, best acting and best under 18s film.
The Shooting Star Competition will see actors register and attempt to appear in as many Shoot Out films as possible.
A host of high- profile judges will oversee this year's event including RICHARD FIDLER, NICHOLAS HOPE, ANTONIA BARNARD, JANE SCOTT, SANDY GEORGE, CHRISTINA ANDRIEFF, KYM GOLDSWORTHY and NICK HORE.
The awards will be presented at ClubNova Panthers Newcastle from 6.
30pm on Sunday.
The club will screen all of this year's entries on July 14, 15 and 16 before they are shown at Sydney's VALHALLA CINEMA on July 28-30.
