Feel the Power of the Powder

Who: Powderfinger
Where: Newcastle Entertainment Centre
When: Wednesday December 10, 2003

ONE of Newcastle's most highly anticipated rock events, POWDERFINGER in concert, is set to l t the roof tonight at NEWCASTLE ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE.

The LIVE ON VULTURE STREET tour is taking in 12 dates across Australia, with Powderfinger in Newcastle for the first time in two years.

After returning triumphant from their first live appearance in almost a year at this year's SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS, Powderfinger are taking their new album Vulture Street on tour around the country.

Joining them for most shows are the JOHN BUTLER TRIO with up-and-coming quartet THE TREMORS.

Powderfinger are one of Australia's most successful rock bands ever.

Having sold nearly 1.

5 million records in Australia alone, their last two albums debuted at No.

1 on the ARIA charts with their previous album, Odyssey Number Five enjoying eight times platinum sales.

After the phenomenal success of their career so far, Powderfinger have undergone a re-invention of sorts.

They have relaxed into their status as Australia's rock royalty and turned their musical direction toward their roots: straight-edged power rock.

With Vulture Street their f th album the band has stepped up to the challenge of taking their music to the next level.

Working again with NICK DiDIA ( RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and NEIL YOUNG , as well as BRENDAN O'BRIEN (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and PEARL JAM ) they have created a hard-hitting album that moves away from the more thematic ballads of their previous albums.

Vulture Street brilliantly combines back-to-basics a raw rock' n' roll sound charged with driving guitar r fs, huge beats and BERNARD FANNING'S commanding vocals and common man touch.

Over the last 10 years Powderfinger have built a solid reputation as a world-class live act with regular appearances at Australia's premier music events.
