If you were one of the 13,000 revellers at SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS last month, you may have come across a pint-sized singer with a big voice similar to that of Icelandic popster BJORK .
Her name is SARAH BLASKO , a 26-year-old singer songwriter from Sydney who is quickly establishing herself as one of Australia's most talented female artists.
With a broad list of i luences ranging from PJ HARVEY to RADIOHEAD , Blasko has seen her musical career truly blossom over the past six months.
Her debut six-track EP Prelusive has been released through DEW PROCESS RECORDS .
and she has completed a tour supporting UK artist BADLY DRAWN BOY.
``It has all happened really quickly and it's funny because I never really set out to make a career out of music,' she said.
``I've been singing for about 10 years and I started songwriting when I was about 19 and in some ways I don't really know how I got into this.
'' Before her embarking on a solo career, Blasko performed in the band Acquiesce.
that which developed a strong following on the Sydney circuit and won the NSW Campus Band competition in 1999.
``I think there is a bit more freedom in working solo and you still have the chance to work with other people which I really enjoy.
''On the Prelusive EP, Blasko collaborated with ROBERT CRANNY who also plays keyboard and guitar in Blasko's four piece band.
``I'm going to go into the studio in the next few weeks to record but I'm not sure whether that will just be an EP or an album, but I've got plenty of material to work with.
'' Following a tour with GELBISON and GERSEY in April, Blasko will team up with the band again for the REVOLUTION TOUR kicking off this month.
Blasko will support Gelbison at the NORTHERN STAR HOTEL in Hamilton on August 16.
