NEWCASTLE has long been regarded as a second home to many of Australia's greatest rock bands including ROSE TATTOO, COLD CHISEL and THE ANGELS.
Former Angels members RICK and JOHN BREWSTER will make their return to the city that first embraced them when they perform in Newcastle with their new blues act THE BREWSTER BROTHERS .
``Newcastle is a big favourite for us because it was really the first city that The Angels took off in,'' John Brewster said.
``Newcastle is just a great town for music and it always has been.
'' While The Angels has not actually officially announced its split, Brewster said it is unlikely that the band will re-form.
And for two brother's who have been performing together since in late 1960s, it was impossible for the pair to stop.
``After a while it dawned on us that we'd better think of something to do and we just started playing together about 18 months ago.
'' Rick and John first performed together in 1969 with the MOONSHINE JUG AND STRING BAND, a blues group that eventually saw the formation of The Angels.
``The Brewster Brothers play acoustic and electric from The Angels repertoire and we also do a lot of new songs that will be included on our Brewster Bros album which will be released next year.
``The sound it actually sounds quite big with just the two of us and it works really well stripped back.
'' The Brewster Brothers will perform at the MAYFIELD HOTEL on Friday from 8pm with TONE ORANGE, RED MOON and BLUES AND BOOMER.
Leg 1 Entry is $18.
