IT has been almost 20 years since OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN headlined her own Australian tour.
While fans have been well aware of her lengthy absence, Newton-John concedes that her time away seems to have passed quickly.
"I was surprised - I can't believe how quickly time flies," Newton-John said.
Her HEARTSTRINGS TOUR will see Newton-John perform at NEWCASTLE ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE on Sunday.
It will be her first local appearance in four years following THE MAIN EVENT tour with JOHN FARNHAM and ANTHONY WARLOW.
The show promises to be a special one for fans with Newton-John accompanied on stage by a seven-piece band and 25-piece orchestra.
The tour also coincides with the release of her latest album 2, a collection of duets between Newton-John and artists such as KEITH URBAN, DARREN HAYES and TINA ARENA.
"I'm hoping that some of my friends on the album will be able to do the show.
"If not, my band will sing them with me.
I have a great band now - I've been doing the show in America just using the band to do the songs and it works great.
" In a career that has spanned more than three decades in film and music, Newton-John has had a string of hits with songs such as Physical, Hopelessly Devoted To You and Xanadu.
Fans will be pleased to hear that Newton-John's tour will provide a broad retrospective of her career.
"I remember when I was young and going to people's concerts, I used to get really upset if they didn't do a certain song because that's what I wanted to hear.
"I've never forgotten that, so I always do the songs they're expecting.
" Following the tour, Newton-John will reunite with JOHN TRAVOLTA to begin work on the long awaited follow-up to her classic film Grease.
Tickets are on sale from TICKETEK on 4921-2121.
