Renee Geyer, Queen of Soul, Back in Town

Who: Renee Geyer
Where: Western Suburbs Leagues Club
Author: Jade Lazerevic
When: Friday June 21, 2002

Veteran singer to perform at Wests. SHE is undoubtably the Australian Queen of Soul and her voice continues to captivate audiences all over the country.

Fresh from a superb performance supporting the legendary Ray Charles at Wyndham Estate Winery in February, Renee Geyer will perform at Wests Leagues Club on Friday night.

Last time Geyer performed at the club in February 2001, the show was a sell out and proved that Geyer still has what it takes as a performer.

Geyer made her start in the music industry in the 70s with her unmistakable raw vocal talent.

She had many trademark hits including It's A Man's Man's World, Stares and Whispers and Heading In The Right Direction. Her music has crossed many boundaries, moving between pop, rock, soul and blues and throughout the 80s, she continued to set the charts on fire.

She recorded her hit Say I Love You in the US, where she eventually relocated to write new material and broaden her musical base to include R&B, jazz, country and Latin sounds.

Furthering her diversity, she teamed with funk musician Hamish Stuart of the Average White Band and recorded an album for US release.

She then toured and recorded with the likes of Chaka Khan, Buddy Guy, Sting, Joe Cocker, Julio Iglesias and Neil Diamond. Fans can look forward to a new album from Geyer which she is in the process of compiling this year.

The album will feature both new tracks and a number of special cover tunes.

Tickets to Geyer's show at Wests are sure to sell out and are available from the club on 4935-1200.

TE has two double passes to give away to the show.
