ONE of the most promising rock acts to emerge from the Newcastle music scene is three-piece act The Good. Made up of Gareth Hudson on lead vocals, Dean Gearing on drums and Heather Barnes on bass and vocals, the trio provides an uplifting mix of pop, rock and groove.

The band had a successful year in 2001 after it took out first place in the inaugural Bundy Band Challenge at The Castle. It performs regularly in clubs and has developed a following in Newcastle and Hunter pubs.

Barnes has performed a variety of styles including pop, rock, jazz, cabaret and musical theatre and has studied double bass at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music. Hudson writes the material and is a trained classical pianist who also plays guitar.

Gearing has been performing music with Hudson since the age of 14 and has toured overseas on a number of occasions to perform.

Catch The Good when it performs at Cessnock Ex-Services Club on Friday night.
