Light-hearted Rockers Burst on to Live Scene

Who: Libido
Where: Hunter on Hunter

When: Saturday March 2, 2002

IT'S all a bit for fun for Libido, a new four-piece whose members you may recognise from other local bands.

The band surfaced after vocalist and guitarist Ben Leeke and drummer Chris Jahnsen decided to form a band that was more light-hearted than Leeke's other project Sleight of Hand. After recruiting guitarist Justin Holland and bassist Mansell Laidler, Libido was born.

With its influences ranging from Weezer to AC/DC and Tool, it was ready to create something a little different.

Although only a few months old, Libido has a large collection of diverse tunes.

'The thing the band prides itself on is that no one song is the same,' Leeke said.

Keen to take on the live scene, Libido has two gigs this weekend.

It will perform at The Lucky Country Hotel on Friday at 10pm with Bunson and 37 then again on Saturday night with James Drinkwater. 'We try to add a bit of humour to our set,' Leeke said.

'But at the same time we don't forget to add intensity and feeling where its called for.'

Catch Libido next month when it performs at the Hunter On Hunter on March 2.
