The Vines Highly Evolved

Who: The Hives
Author: Jade Lazarevic

EMI Although THE VINES have given their debut album the title HIGHLY EVOLVED, the sound is anything but.

Think THE STROKES and THE HIVES, the new wave of young bands rejoicing in the old days of garage rock.

The Vines are the latest band to jump on this bandwagon of retro rock and although it's been done before, it's damn catchy.

Originating from Sydney, The Vines got together less than two years ago, but already have plenty to live up to with this being one of the most anticipated albums of the year.

The band has managed to meet all expectations, with lead vocalist CRAIG NICHOLLS hitting all the right notes to suit this style of fuzzy guitar rock.

Touches of THE BEATLES shine through in their sound, with melodic vocals and catchy verses.

Formerly a NIRVANA covers band, The Vines' influences shine through and using the same successful formula, The Vines have managed to put together an album of poppy grunge rock.

The great thing about this formula is that it is exciting to listen to.

AUTUMN SHADE and MARY JANE use trippy vocals and lazy guitar riffs and are a sharp contrast to rocking bursts of grunge like OUTTHAWAY and GET FREE.
