Magic for a Great Show

What: Beauty and the Beast
Where: Maitland City Bowling Club
When: Tuesday April 23, 2002

THE timeless magic of the children's classic Beauty and the Beast will be brought to life next Tuesday in an exciting school holiday stage show in Maitland.

Sydney-based performance ensemble Young Stars will put on the production, which director Brian Laul said combined all the winning elements of the original with modern songs, humour and magical effects.

Laul said a big drawcard was the interactivity of the play, which allows children to get involved in the action as it happens.

'This production not only has all the magic for great entertainment,' he said.

'The story gives off the right vibes of hope and love which are so important for children and young people in today's world.

'It also helps to understand that true beauty lies within.'

Laul said the Beast required a slight character modification to ensure that it wasn't too frightening for the younger target audience.

'We've tamed the Beast down a bit, he's a friendly Beast,' he said.

The hour-long show will begin at 3.30pm on April 23 at the Maitland City Bowling Club. All tickets are $8.80 and can be booked by calling 4932 8433.

Proceeds from the show will go towards the Make A Wish charity foundation.

Children are invited to come to the show dressed as fairies or pixies to get photos with cast members after the show.
