Young Country Sensation Tours The East Coast

Where: Nelson Bay RSL

When: Friday September 14, 2001

THE Hunter Region's latest country sensation Catherine Britt is just 16 years old but leading country star Kasey Chambers has already named Catherine as her favourite singer.

'My favourite female singer in Australia is Catherine Britt from Newcastle,' Kasey said.

'She sounds like she's 40 and gone through three marriage breakdowns. A fantastic voice.'

In fact, Kasey was so impressed she invited Catherine to join her on a two-week tour of the east coast.

Catherine performed in Belmont and Maitland last week with Kasey and will perform at Nelson Bay RSL on October 14.

Catherine first began performing professionally at age 11 with the local Steel City Country Music Club. After meeting Bill Chambers of the Dead Ringer Band and singer Audrey Auld in 1998, Catherine's shot at stardom had arrived.

By 1999, Catherine had released her own EP which was produced by Bill Chambers.

The album saw Catherine co-write a track with Kasey Chambers and write some of her own tracks.

Catherine's track That Don't Bother Me was included on the Open Road 3 compilation and quickly climbed the charts.

Earlier this year it reached the national Top 5 and was nominated for a number of awards. This year Catherine has also been working on her debut album Dusty Smiles And Heartbreak Cures.
