WITH a bunch of fresh, fruity and funky ingredients Fruitcake are quickly becoming known as the ultimate party band in Newcastle.

The group have had a busy year performing at top night spots throughout the city and wowing crowds at functions.

In the past six months Fruitcake have been cooking at high temperatures, playing to maximum capacity crowds at nightclubs in Newcastle.

The band underwent a sex change earlier in the year when dancer, choreographer, songwriter and champion gymnast Darren Fewins joined the band.

Darren is a true professional and has received seven Australian Music Award Nominations and worked with Human Nature, Vanessa Amorossi and Bachelor Girl. Darren shares the stage with female vocalists Amy and Mel. Amy has been squeezing in gigs with Fruitcake between a hectic schedule performing in the latest production of West Side Story at Club Nova. Mel, who is known for her funky dance moves, is a former Sydney dance champion and choreographer and has worked with Marcia Hines, Merril Bainbridge and Midnight Oil. Apart form their fresh mix of tunes and irresistible stage presence, Fruitcake are also favourites for their bright, funky costumes and huge vocal sounds.

Try a sample of Fruitcake when they perform at Hotel CBD on Saturday and at Fanny's on Sunday. They will also perform at Cessnock Ex-Services Club on Friday night.
