FOR the past year, Gothic music fans have been meeting at The Cambridge Hotel at the monthly Necropolis Nightclub. This Saturday night Necropolis will celebrate its first birthday with a party named A Vampire Gathering where vampire dress code is encouraged.
Necropolis Nightclub co-organiser Traci Stubbs said the club surfaced when she and her friends decided they no longer wanted to travel to Sydney to hear the kind of music they liked.
'We didn't know if there would be other people in Newcastle who liked the same types of music and style of dress,' Traci said.
'Luckily, there are quite a few people around who do.'
Traci said the nightclub attracts around 50 to 60 people each month, including people from Sydney.
'People have said that it's a lot better than the Sydney clubs because we play all different types of music and the people are a lot friendlier.'
The first Necropolis was held in September 2000 and has continued monthly.
The party will be held in Bar Deco at the Cambridge Hotel and begin at 10pm.
Entry is $5, or $4 for students and concession.
