Beatlemania Set for a Splash

Where: Surf City

When: Saturday June 30, 2001

Newcastle will experience Beatlemania when The Beatnix shake it up at Surf City on Saturday.

Patrons are encouraged to dress up in their grooviest rock-n-roll style attire for a chance to win a $100 door prize for best outfit.

The Beatnix show was conceived in 1980, just 10 months before the death of John Lennon and has toured internationally throughout Hong Kong, Bangkok, Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia.

The four mop-tops capture the essence of the Beatles during the height of Beatlemania with matching tailored suits and authentic instruments as used by the Beatles.

In the first half of the 90-minute performance, the group perform early classics such as Twist and Shout, I Want To Hold Your Hand, A Hard Days Night and She Loves You. The show then moves on to an impressive change of colour and mood influenced by the Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band era and featuring music from the group's psychedelic albums of the late 60s.

All instruments and equipment used by the group are authentic and have been carefully chosen down to the greatest detail.

The group uses rare and valuable guitars, amplifiers and drum kits as well as a Vox Python guitar strap as used by John Lennon.

As the premier Beatles group in Australia, the band has retained its fresh young sound by introducing new members to the group regularly.

Entry to the show is $10.
