LAST month the Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA)invited 100 Australian writers, musicians, critics and broadcasters to nominate 10 Australian songs they regarded as the best and most significant works of the past 75 years.

From the lists submitted, APRA compiled a list of the top 30 Australian songs.

Among the 30 songs nominated was the 1969 classic The Real Thing performed by Russell Morris. You can relive the memories at Western Suburbs Leagues Club next Wednesday when Morris performs a collection of his latest and greatest tracks.

Russell began his career in 1966 as the lead singer of Somebody's Image, but moved on to pursue a solo career two years later.

Under the management of Ian 'Molly' Meldrum he topped the charts with The Real Thing and That Girl I Love. Success followed with tracks such as Wings Of An Eagle, Rachel and Sweet Sweet Love. Proving his staying power, Morris had two of his tracks featured on the soundtrack of the recent Australian hit film The Dish. Morris has now teamed up with ex-Zoot member Daryl Cotton and Master's Apprentices member Jim Keays to form the group Cotton. TE has two double passes to give away to the Russell Morris concert.
