MEMBERS of Newcastle male harmony trio NEW GENERATION were shocked when a stranger in the audience described them as the 'suburban TAXIRIDE'. But singer and percussionist TY HAMILTON says the three-month-old group warmed to the description because they have more in common with Taxiride than the more saccharine harmonies group HUMAN NATURE. 'We can rock it up when we have to,' he said.
New Generation features Hamilton, 21, singer JOSH PRATT, also 21, and 24-year-old singer guitarist BRADEN BECK, performing live vocals and guitars over pre-recorded bass and drums backing.
The group will perform at Waratah Rugby Club on Friday night and the Brewery on Saturday night.
Next week the band will perform at Phoenix on Friday, January 19, and Wests Leagues Club on Saturday, January 20.
'At clubs we do harmonies by groups such as THE EAGLES and ROBBIE WILLIAMS, as well as the all the 1950s and 1960s rock for the oldies,' he said.
'But when we play at The Brewery we do a lot of the funkier stuff by WILL SMITH, RICKY MARTIN, REGURGITATOR, MATCHBOX TWENTY, TAXI RIDE and TOM JONES.' Hamilton, formerly of DTY (now THREE 27) plans to write original material with Beck this year.TE
