SINGER guitarist LYLE AKINS has made a successful transition to solo work, following his departure from lead vocal duties with THE URGE. Akins, playing this Friday night at the Gunyah Hotel, has picked up a monthly residency at the Belmont venue where he plays on the third Friday of every month.

He also performs on the first Friday of the month at the Marquis O'Lorne Hotel, Lambton, where the performer started out on his own a year ago.

'It's a quieter sort of style, where you can go along and have a beer and a conversation and still listen to the music,' he said.

'It all seems to go over pretty well.'

Akins, playing acoustic guitar, performs covers by HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH, THE EAGLES, MATCHBOX TWENTY and BON JOVI. He draws from a wide range of material from the 1960s to the present. TE
