SINCE winning the ARIA award for Best Country Artist in 1999, Kasey Chambers has quickly changed most perceptions of country music.
With her youthful outlook and modern touch on country sounds, Kasey is quickly winning over pop music and country music fans.
The 25-year-old from Mount Gambier has become one of Australia's biggest musical exports since she released her award-winning album The Captain in 1999.
Growing up in a remote area didn't hold Kasey back from pursuing her goal to become a country musician.
'My town wasn't even on the map. You could pass right through it in 20 seconds flat,' Kasey sings on the track Southern Kind Of Life. Kasey began performing with her family when they formed a band in the late 80s and made several albums. Her choice to become a solo artist was a good one, and The Captain went on to sell over 70,000 copies in Australia.
The album received a worldwide release and went on to receive further acclaim.
Kasey has been working on a follow-up to the album, titled Barricades and Brickwalls. The eagerly anticipated album will be in stores from September 3.
'The last album showed my life story,' Kasey says.
'That was Introducing Kasey Chambers. This one's The Many Moods of Kasey Chambers.'
Fans can expect to hear appearances from a variety of artists including Lucinda Williams, The Living End, Paul Kelly, Matthew Ryan and Buddy Miller. The first single from the album, Runaway Train, was released earlier this month.
The new single includes previously unreleased tracks, Ignorance and a live version of The Captain.
Kasey has also taken her music to America and performed a number of gigs there over the past few months.
Kasey performed in areas like Chicago and New York, where she played in front of an audience including actress Kate Hudson, Black Crowes member Chris Robinson and Elvis Costello. Belmont 16ft Sailing Club is next on the agenda for Kasey when she performs on September 1 at 8.30pm.
Tickets are available from the club for $27.50.
