Anakin spin their debut disc at SJ's

Who: Anakin
Where: SJ's on Beaumont
When: Wednesday September 20, 2000

AFTER two years playing around Newcastle three-piece rock'n'roll band ANAKIN has surfaced from the recording studio to present its debut CD tonight at SJ's Hotel.

The five-track CD called ESREVER NI was recorded at Sydney's TROY HORSE studios with producer MARK WORRALL who has worked with ESKIMO JOE and SHIHAD. Anakin, featuring singer/bass player GREG COOKS, drummer SCOTT HALL and singer/guitarist RICHARD BROWN, describes the result as 'a rock style that can wake punters at 50 paces'.

Cook said the group's musical influences were HELMET, METALLICA and BLACK SABBATH, and described the effect of the music in contrasting metaphors.

'The simple combination of guitar, bass and drums, can at times be reminiscent of being thrust into a brick wall,' he said.

'At other times it can be soothing dirge.

'Partner this with heartfelt lyrics that are an honest reflection of modern society, the good and not-so-good, and you have Anakin.'

The CD features striking artwork, and is being distributed through Queensland-based distribution company ORACLE RECORDS.
