ELECTRONIC music fans will be spoiled for choice over the next few weeks, with VITAL BEATS returning to the Cambridge Hotel this Saturday night.
In October a national conference on electronic music distribution will coincide with the ELECTROFRINGE festival featuring an estimated 120 dance music acts over three days.
Saturday night's Vital Beats dance party will feature DJ SAM C, PATSAN, MARK N, NEOTOKE and CHRIS CALM in the main room, with FRAGLE, FIONA K, ARKETEK, MILES DYSON, THROB GOBLIN and SPECIALIST in the courtyard.
Vital Beats will be taking a break in October, vowing to return in November with headline DJ BEXTA, after the three-day NATIONAL INDEPENDENT ELECTRONIC LABELS CONFERENCE, in Newcastle, October 5-7.
The conference costs $30 to attend, which includes access to 25 panels and workshops set to look at the issues facing independent record labels across the country.
Speakers include Newcastle's MARK NEWLANDS from industrial music label BLOODY FIST, CHAOSMUSIC representative VICTORIA DOIDGE and respected e-music veterans such as OLLIE OLSON from PSYHARMONICS and GORDON FINLAYSON from CLAN ANALOGUE. The conference is tying closely with the NATIONAL YOUNG WRITERS FESTIVAL, ELECTROFRINGE, NATIONAL STUDENT MEDIA CONFERENCE and NATIONAL COMMUNITY RADIO CONFERENCE. Electrofringe is an annual festival of digital, hybrid, electronic and new media arts that is now in its third year.
The 120 musical acts over three nights will be announced soon.
All of the events, being coordinated out of the OCTAPOD youth media and arts collective offices in Auckland St, Newcastle, are running through the THIS IS NOT ART festival.
The This Is Not Art festival will run at a variety of venues throughout Newcastle from October 5-9. Inquiries through www.octapod.org.au/thisisnotart
