THE urbane godfather of Australian rhythm and blues, DAVE TICE, will sit in with swinging jazz cats THE SHUFFLE KINGS at the Northern Star on Sunday night.
Tice, a silver-maned guitarist/vocalist, had a teenage love affair with legendary blues growlers HOWLIN' WOLF, MUDDY WATERS and SONNY BOY WILLIAMSON which stood him in good stead for a prolific career.
He has the swagger, but more importantly he has the voice to command an audience's attention.
I caught Tice doing a few sets with the guitarless Shuffle Kings a while back at the Northern Star, and it certainly added a dimension to their unique sound.
Cookin' jazz, swing and jump inspired by the likes of LOUIS JORDAN and JOHNNY BURNETT is a sizzling meal, but throw a guitar in the mix and you have the meanest gumbo this side of New Orleans. Chow down from 8pm. - Ben Quinn
