Grab Your Malibu and Paddle into the Big Blues

Who: Not Young and the Maliblues
Where: New Orana Hotel
When: Friday March 10, 2000

IF older surfers begin to ride malibus and older musicians take to the blues, then the name of the latest blues band to emerge, NOT YOUNG AND THE MALIBLUES, is self-explanatory.

Playing this Friday night at the New Orana Hotel at Blacksmiths and Sunday night at the Northern Star Hotel, members of The Maliblues are ageing gracefully and in style.

For REX 'HONEYBOY' HILL (pictured) it's a case of reuniting with 'LONESOME' HARVEY FISK, after the two spent a couple of years in Fisk's band LONESOME BOOGIE. With Hill's band BLACKY'S BLUES disbanded and Fisk's band winding up, the pair reunited to jam on some classic '1950s-style Chicago blues' sans bass guitar.

Fisk is a 50-something legend who has played with THE FOREDAY RIDERS ('in the early days'), JAMES T & THE LAST VOLUNTEERS, supported JUNIOR WELLS and CANNED HEAT and knows his way around the major Australian jazz festivals.

Hill, on saxophone, and Fisk, lead electric guitar, have enlisted second guitarist DINO DEVITIS and former Blacky's Blues drummer BRETT VAN KREIDT to complete the authentic Chicago-style line-up.

The band will perform everything 'from MUDDY WATERS and LITTLE WALTER to JUNIOR WELLS'. TE
