IF you can get past the name then Melbourne band THE STINKING BADGER OF JAVA is actually a delightful creature to get intimate with.
No really, you're going to want to snuggle down with this eclectic four-piece acoustic group playing tomorrow night at the Northern Star Hotel.
Their inspiration, drawn from 'a healthy, post-modern mishmashed diet of rock, pop, folk, electronica, jazz and classical music', ranges from NEIL YOUNG to MR BUNGLE, PJ HARVEY to the VIOLENT FEMMES. You got it.
The band is constantly experimenting with new sounds, vocal arrangements and new instruments.
This adventurous spirit led recently to the addition of classically trained horn virtuosoALESSANDRO SERVADI (French horn, melodica, animal horn, mellophonium, contrabass harmonica, piano and vocals).
Another recent addition has been the 'spoken word and musical miscellany' of THOMAS K. BOLLINGER (guitars, drums, percussion, organ, voice, turntables and programming).
Formed in 1991, the core of the group is songwriting duo PAUL J. NARKIEWICZ (same instruments as Bollinger) and BRIGETTE KELLE (voice, guitars, bass, percussion, piano and drums).
The group's live performances blend a rich musical texture and sweet songs with spoken word and DADA-esque stage plays.
