IT'S been a long time between drinks for Newcastle fans of Melbourne popsters REBECCA'S EMPIRE, but that all changes at Fanny's this Friday night when the band makes a welcome return to the city.
Singer and chief songwriter REBECCA BARNARD said the band was looking forward to the show, which will be their first Hunter gig in more than 18 months.
'It's just nice to get out of the big cities, there's a freshness with the audience you don't get in Sydney and Melbourne, and I think the audience enjoy it more too,' Rebecca said.
After a long stint off the road REBECCA'S EMPIRE has begun a major national tour to promote its second album, WELCOME. Rebecca said the band had no regrets in taking its time to produce the follow-up to its debut album WAY OF ALL THINGS. 'Instead of bowing to the pressure to get the next album out as soon as possible we thought it was better to take our time until we had the right stuff.
'It's much the same style but I think it sounds more confident, it's a progression from what we did before.
'A lot of people have said it sounds more like a band.
'With the last album we hadn't played live much as a band before recording.
'Now we've had four years playing pretty constantly, and it really shows.'
