IN 1983 astronauts BOB CRIPPEN and JOHN YOUNG played a SLIM DUSTY version of WALTZING MATILDA as the space shuttle COLUMBIA soared over the continent.
Tonight, at Maitland City Bowling Club, and on Friday night at the Cardiff Workers Club, Slim might just play the song again, but in his infinitely more down-to-earth style.
It's just one of hundreds of factoids that the Slim Dusty industry has assembled to keep us writing stories about him.
As if we'd ever stop! Slim is a legend. Slim is true blue. Slim is a bloody bonzer cobber, and if you don't believe us, ask anyone if they know at least one verse from his song (I LOVE TO HAVE A BEER WITH) DUNCAN, or to whistle the tune to G'DAY, G'DAY, or to sing the chorus from A PUB WITH NO BEER. Fair dinkum. If you reckon Slim's not ridgey-didge, then we reckon you must have a few roos loose in ya top paddock.
Stone the flamin' crows. Here at TE there's nothing we love more than a good ute, a meat pie, a cold glass of full-strength draught, a brown dog, the missus, our mates and our SLIM BLOODY DUSTY albums.
We kid you not.
TE has a double pass to see Slim at the Cardiff Workies Club this Fridee to give away. To go in the draw send us an envelope with ya name, ya phone number and ya address on the back of an enevelope, to the SLIM DUSTY GIVEAWAY, PO Box 615, Newcastle, 2300.
