FOR the past 18 months the RADIOACTIVE duo has performed covers from country rock to pop contemporary and classic rock'n'roll.
Playing this Friday night at Phoenix and Saturday at the Prince of Wales Hotel, the duo of PETER PIHLAK and LEAH SMITH has had to wind back its country repertoire.
'We've had to do more slow ballads and dancey Top 40 stuff towards the end of the night,' Smith said.
Ballads by TRICIA YEARWOOD, SHANIA TWAIN and golden oldies such as UNDER THE BOARDWALK have given way to up-tempo numbers whenever the duo performs to a dining crowd.
Later in the evening the duo rocks it up a bit with songs by CHER, some more Shania and TINA TURNER. Contemporary pop covers include songs by DENI HINES, GARY MOORE and FLEETWOOD MAC. Radioactive also covers classic 1950s and 1960s songs by ELVIS PRESLEY, THE EVERLY BROTHERS, THE DRIFTERS, THE BEATLES and JOHNNY O'KEEFE. Next year the pair will be performing at the Tamworth Country music festival as part of the ALBY POOL BAND. But as Radioactive, the duo plays mainly contemporary pop and classic rock'n'roll.
'We like country,' Smith says. 'We just can't do as much as we want.'
The group does perform country rock requests for the country music faithful.
'If we know it, we'll do it,' she said. TE
