NOTORIOUS Irish criminal MARTIN CAHILL is the subject of the latest film by director JOHN BOORMAN who worked on DELIVERANCE, POINT BLANK, HOPE AND GLORY and THE EMERALD FOREST. THE GENERAL (M) which Boorman wrote, produced and directed, opens this week.
The film features BRENDAN GLEESON as 'The General' and JON VOIGHT as Cahill's arch enemy Inspector Ned Kenny.
Australian movie reviewer LAWRIE ZION describes the film as 'gripping, startling and a bloody good yarn'.
Filmed in black and white the film exposes Cahill's character, a potent mix of violence, humour and generosity which made him a legend, which has grown since his death in 1994. TE
