UNLIKE the Australian rock and pop singer of the same name MARIE WILSON, playing on Sunday at The Kent Hotel, has made a name for herself in jazz and cabaret.
Performing on Sunday with NEVILLE URE and THE JAZZ TRIO Wilson was born in India, where she established herself as a jazz singer before emigrating to Australia in the early 1960s
Wilson won a Mo Award in 1994 for Best Female Jazz Vocalist, an award for which she has been nominated four times.
She has released two albums, the first I THOUGHT ABOUT YOU on the Larrikin Label in 1984 and I MISS THE HUNGRY YEARS in 1988.
Wilson has performed with Australian jazz greats such as JAMES MORRISON, DON BURROWS, JULIAN LEE, GEORGE GOLLA, KENNY POWELL and CHUCK YATES. TE
