King Cornet's Clarion Call

Who: Bob Bernard
Where: Northern Star Hotel
When: Sunday August 1, 1999

AUSTRALIAN jazz great BOB BARNARD will perform at the Northern Star Hotel on Sunday afternoon.

The cornet player will be joined on the day by GEOFFREY 'OGDEN' BROWN, the leader of the CAFE SOCIETY ORCHESTRA. Barnard, 65, has been playing for 50 years and cut his first album when he was 18.

It was called BOB BARNARD'S ALLFREY STREET STOMPERS. Playing from duos and sextets to bop bands and big bands, Barnard remains a front-line jazz artist admired for his consistency, durability and artistry.

Performing 'mainstream' jazz, with touches of traditional, he does not restrict himself to the stylistic rules or repertoire of early jazz.

Others have called him the best Dixieland trumpeter in the best, bringing his skill, taste and imagination to an often moribund traditional scene.

THE DENVER POST described him as 'the great Australian trumpet player . . . a rich-toned revelation, swinging like mad'. TE
