GUITARIST VINCE MARTINELLI and vocalist RITA SCOTT, known as the WINE & ROSES duo around Newcastle's classier eateries and clubs, will support diva SHIRLEY BASSEY this Saturday at the Wyndham Estate Winery.
The duo has assembled a rhythm section to provide a groovy edge to the musical outfit's usual repertoire of jazz standards and original tunes penned by Martinelli.
The rhythm section of drummer GRANT HADDOW, bass player TRENT HADDOW and keyboard player PHIL TWEED, is known for its work at the SOAPBOX JAZZ CAFE in Newcastle.
Martinelli says the trio has 'vibed up' the duo's material, providing a backing that is 'rhythmically energetic'.
Classically trained, Martinelli will also perform a 20-minute set before Wine & Roses of original material, flamenco and traditional Spanish guitar pieces.
Martinelli won a scholarship in 1990 to train in Rome under guitar master LUCIO DOSSO. Martinelli can be heard performing solo at Mucho's Mexican Restaurant on Wednesdays, and now on Thursdays and Sundays at the new Porto Franco restaurant in Charlestown.
Wine & Roses can next be seen as a duo at Cardiff Workers Club on March 5 and Newcastle Workers Club on March 13. From April the duo will perform at a series winemakers' dinners throughout the year at the Bayviews Restaurant, Warners Bay. TE
