HARDCORE punk band 59 TIMES THE PAIN and melodic punk/pop group DOWN BY LAW will tip the needle on the angry meter into the red at The Cambridge next Wednesday night, December 2.
Playing 'heavy, uptempo hardcore in the New York style', Sweden's 59 TIMES THE PAIN has an album TWENTY PERCENT OF MY HAND on the BURNING HEART label, which would do HENRY ROLLINS proud.
Musically the band has been compared to hardcore punk combos such as SICK OF IT ALL, AGNOSTIC FRONT, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES and RANCID. While 59 TIMES THE PAIN points out it is not a 'straight-edge band' in its philosophies, it does own up to an 'angry yet positive outlook', aggressive delivery and an honest belief in what they do.
The group is singer guitarist MAGNUS LARNHEDM guitarist NICKE LUNDGREN, bass player MICHAEL CONRADSSON and drummer TONI VIRTANEN. Joining the group on the bill is New York's DOWN BY LAW, fronted by DAVE SMALLEY, the voice behind the microphone in bands such as DSY, DAG NASTY and the first two albums from ALL. Smalley's power pop punch, aided and abetted by guitarist SAM WILLIAMS and bass player ANGRY JOHN DIMAMBRO, has been compared in the same sentence to STIFF LITTLE FINGERS and ELVIS COSTELLO. The band's CD LAST OF THE SHARP SHOOTERS is on the EPITAPH label.
TE has a copy of both albums to give away.
