BIRMINGHAM's reggae legends UB40 will play at the Newcastle Workers Club on Thursday, February 4, as part of the SUMMER RIDDIMS Australian Tour.
Formed 20 years ago in an ethnically diverse city, the eight-member band fronted by ALI and ROBIN CAMPBELL, found its first big break supporting THE PRETENDERS on a national UK tour.
UB40 released its first single in 1980, and scored four Top 10 UK hits.
But in 1983 it was a cover of the NEIL DIAMOND song RED RED WINE which earned UB40 the number one spot in the UK and US charts.
The band then teamed with The Pretenders' CHRISSY HYNDE in 1985 for a cover of the SONNY & CHER song I GOT YOU BABE. Tickets are on sale now from the club. TE
