Finger-picking Success Story

Who: Anousha Victoire
Where: Lass O' Gowrie
When: Sunday March 5, 2006

FINGER-picking folk artist Anousha Victoire will play the first of seven EP launches in Newcastle on Sunday when she performs at the Lass O'Gowrie. Victoire's debut EP Off My Skin was released in 2003 and she has followed it with her new four-track release, Icarus. Newcastle-based Victoire said the running theme on her new EP was freedom.

Since emerging in 2001, Victoire has steadily been making her mark on the Australian folk scene.

She has chalked up appearances at Woodford Folk Festival, the National Folk Festival and the Wollombi Festival, and took out the folk category at the inaugural 1233 ABC Newcastle Music Awards. With politically charged lyrics and a poetic sensibility, her songwriting is influenced by her French-Mauritian and Indian heritage while remaining Australian in flavour.

She will host launches in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, as well as a second launch in Newcastle at the Gateway Hotel on Thursday, March 16.
