NEWCASTLE cover band Clockwork hopes to become recognised as the city's premier rock band. And with all members experienced in some of the region's most popular bands, the four-piece looks primed to do so. Clockwork is Beth McMullen (lead vocals), James Peacock (lead guitar and vocals), Jaydon Blanch (bass and vocals) and Ryan Crick (drums).
McMullen boasts a bucket load of vocal ability, having has performed professionally for more than three years in bands such as with The Commitments Big Band and True Lies. Likewise, guitarist Peacock is just as passionate about music and it shows in his playing having first picked up the instrument in 1993.He has gained an advanced proficiency on the six-string and has played in several original and cover bands as well as acoustic duos. One of his bands, Subterfuge, released an EP in 2001.
Blanch also began playing guitar in 1993 and has devoted his time to perfecting the instrument, has divided his time between bands on the Central Coast such as 2 Far Gone, Malakyi Grind and The Mighty Reapers. He has also played with Sydney bands SuperCharger and Groove Jet. Crick completes the line-up behind the kit. Formerly of original band Once Were Tadpoles, music teacher Crick began playing drums the tender at the age of six and has been passing on his skills to students since 2001.
His greatest highlight was playing as a backing drummer for James Morrison. Clockwork deliver a high energy, guitar driven rock show which is complemented by the powerful coals of McMullen.Their repertoire includes covers of the chart hits plus the best of '70s, '80s, and '90s from artists such as Avril Lavigne, Garbage, No Doubt, Ashlee Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, Evanescence and Maroon 5. Clockwork will play its high-energy, guitar-driven rock at the Mayfield Ex-Services Club on Saturday night.
