Feeling For Blues A Success For Piper

Who: Anni Piper
Where: Lake Macquarie Tavern
When: Sunday November 27, 2005

ANNI Piper can still distinctly remember the moment she first heard the blues.

``It was Paul Butterfield,'' the 26-year-old Wollongong-based musician recalled.

``I knew straight away that I wanted to play blues.'' These days Piper is living out her own dream as a musician and has established quite a reputation on the Australian blues circuit, not only as a solid vocalist but also as an accomplished bassist.

Her passion for the music has taken her a long way since the release of her debut album, Jailbait, in August last year.

Piper won Best New Talent at the Australian Blues Music Awards in February with the track Come In My Kitchen and was also a finalist for Female Vocalist of the Year.

Despite her win Piper is still coming to terms with her newfound success.

``Winning the award was a big surprise,'' Piper said.

``The competition was tough and when I saw the list of nominations I was humbled just to have my name on the same page as those acts.'' Piper will make a visit to Newcastle for an afternoon performance at Lake Macqaurie Tavern on Sunday.

She will be on stage from 3pm.

Entry is free.
