Blues, Ballads From Real Mccoy

IT was 1969 when singer- songwriter Tony Joe White from Louisana was brought into the spotlight with his Top-10 single Polk Salad Annie .

With his blues- drenched, truth-injected songs about swamp characters and ballads about life and love, White became a critically acclaimed artist.

Throughout the '70s and '80s he toured with some of the biggest artists of the decade such as Creedence Clearwater Revival and James Taylor .

The 1990s began with an explosion of activity for White as Tina Turner recorded four of his songs for her multi- platinum-selling Foreign Affairs album including the worldwide hit, Steamy Windows .

White has had songs recorded by dozens of major artists such as Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker and Tim McGraw .

More recently he released the critically acclaimed Heroines which he recorded with notable female artists such as Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Jessi Colter, Shelby Lynne and his daughter Michelle White .

Recording has already begun for the companion piece Heroes which will feature JJ Cale, Mark Knofler and Waylon Jennings amongst others.

White is now touring Australia and will be performing at Hexham Bowling Club this Sunday. November 20
