Natural Bluesman Welcomed In The Uk

Who: Derrin Nauendorf
Where: Gallipoli Legion Club
When: Friday May 13, 2005

AUSTRALIAN audiences should make the most of Derrin Nauendorf while they can.

The 30-year-old bluesman has attracted plenty of attention overseas lately with the UK's BBC radio saying that ``flurrying guitar notes, cutting lyrics and powerful dynamic delivery has won over fans, peers and critics alike''.

A musician in rock and blues bands since his teenage years, Nauendorf's maturing taste for melody and lyric drew him to explore roots and acoustica, culminating with his first album, Natural. The album received a strong response and encouraged him to take things further.

Since he followed Natural with Live At The Boardwalk and the 2003 release Wasteland, Nauendorf has blossomed as a performer.

Throughout his late 20s, Nauendorf played close to 1000 shows in the UK and Europe, gaining a strong following of loyal supporters, some known to drive up to five hours to catch a show.

Now he is back in his native Australia with his latest release, New History, which showcases the development of his roots-influenced style.

It is the only album of his career that is a completely solo performance.

``In the whole time I have been playing music, I have always wanted to do a solo and live recording,'' Nauendorf said.

``Some of my favourite albums in my collection are just one guy, a guitar, a bunch of songs and an audience.

``I have been thinking about doing this kind of album for over 10 years and I felt I was up for it.

``It was recorded in England at a great venue called Mr. Kyps. I am really thrilled with the way it sounds.'' Nauendorf is touring and will perform at the Gallipoli Legion Club on Friday, May 13.
