Celebrating Work Of Volunteers

Who: Su Cruikshank, Sassy Stutters, Sunset, Sing Australia, Valentines, Macquarie Music Makers '60s Plus Entertainment and the RathminesWangi Singers
Where: Cardiff Panthers
When: Wednesday March 16, 2005

HUNTER Volunteer Centre will be participating in the annual Seniors' Week celebrations this month by hosting a concert especially for seniors.

It will be held today at Cardiff Panthers and feature artists from the Hunter Volunteer Centre's entertainers directory, as well as guest compere Su Cruickshank. In line with the goals of Seniors' Week, which aims to celebrate the contribution seniors make to the community, volunteers will provide their services free of charge.

Featured artists at the concert include Sassy Stutters, Sunset, Sing Australia, Valentines, Macquarie Music Makers '60s Plus Entertainment and the RathminesWangi Singers. ``Although Seniors' Week is a State Government initiative, local events are organised autonomously at the discretion of local community organisations,'' Hunter Volunteer Centre's Andy Macdonald said. ``It is at these times that we should pause to think of the past contributions senior citizens have made to their community.

``Over the decades, societies and systems may have changed, however the commitment of these people to their society has never waned.

``The community should take Seniors' Week as an opportune time to celebrate the longevity of good model citizens.'' Today's concert starts at 10am.
