ONE of the world's leading ballet companies, The Russian National Ballet Theatre, is set to embark on its maiden Australian tour.
Under the direction of famed Bolshoi Ballet soloist Vladimir Moiseev, the Russian National Ballet will present a program featuring the classics Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker and the world premiere of their production of Romeo and Juliet. This is the first time any company has attempted such presentations in a single season, as the company requires more than 600 costumes and 18 different stage sets.
Featuring some of the best of Russia's award-winning principals and soloists, the Russian National Ballet is regarded as the most prestigious Russian ballet company to tour Australia since the Bolshoi Ballet in 1994.
``This is enormous, and with the technical crew who are accompanying them you could present the world's biggest rock concert,'' producer Graham Hutchison said.
``It has taken many years to get this incredible company to Australia.
``Audiences will have the chance to see for the first time one of the most exciting and beautiful ballet companies in the world.'' The Russian National Ballet will appear at Newcastle Civic Theatre on Monday, September 12.
