NEWCASTLE will welcome Canadian singer SARAH McLACHLAN when she returns to perform following the success of her Australian Afterglow tour last year. The three-time Grammy award winner will perform at CIVIC THEATRE NEWCASTLE on Saturday, March 26.
When McLachlan toured Australia last year it was the first time she had performed in the country despite holding a strong Australian fan base since the release of her debut album Touch in 1988. McLachlan has become one of Canada's leading female artists, selling more than 22 million records worldwide and headlining arenas and festivals around the world. As the originator of the LILITH FAIR touring festival, McLachlan drew together an eclectic collection of mainly female performers who sold out open-air venues in the United States for three consecutive summers.
Dubbed the female version of Lollapalooza, Lilith Fair raised money to donate more than $3 million to various women's charities.
Her 1997 release, Surfacing , debuted at number two on the pop charts and received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Album.
As well as Grammy awards, McLachlan has also collected accolades over the years had six Juno Awards and an Oscar nomination.
When McLachlan returns to Australia next month she will be joined by England-based Australian singer/songwriter BUTTERFLY BOUCHER. Tickets are on sale now and bookings can be made by calling 4929 1977.
