FOR many years he was the voice behind long- standing country outfit WILSON AND LIGHTFOOT. Now one half of the duo, JOHN WILSON, has realised a life-long dream by embarking on a solo career by recording and releasing his first album.
Produced by Wilson and friend MAX MULLER at Ferndale Studios in Newcastle, it was performed by Wilson with Muller on bass, ADAM MILLER on guitar, ROD ANSELL on saxophone and harmonica and TERENCE J. KOO on keyboards.
The self-titled album comprises four songs written by Wilson and six covers by artist such as DWIGHT YOAKAM, RODNEY CROWEL and ALLAN JACKSON. The album touches on everything from every- day life encounters to relationships and breakdowns to Wilson's own experiences as a musician.
Things I Call My Own tells the story of a country singer- songwriter's love for his music and the satisfaction he feels by reaching out to others through song.
Wilson's songwriting ability shines on the track Ode To Billy Johnson which tells a powerful story about an Irish-born political convict.
Wilson is performing regularly around the Hunter and will play a string of dates this week.
Catch him at HAMILTON GREENROOF HOTEL on Friday night.
He will also perform at the KAHIBAH BOWLING CLUB on Saturday and the BOOLAROO COMMERCIAL HOTEL on Sunday.
