IN the history of popular music THERE are very few vocal groups in the history of popular music that have been inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame.

THE DRIFTERS are one of them.

The group has been one of the world's most popular acts for the past 40 years.

Many singers have performed as part of the group over the years, including CLYDE McPHATTER and BEN E.

KING. BILLY WASHINGTON, now 65, joined The Drifters in his early teens.

He has been recreating the original sound of The Drifters since then.

Joining Washington in The Drifters is WAYNE FOSTER, who has been with the group for more than 25 years.

The newest member of the group is PATRICK JACKSON who spent 25 years in THE COASTERS. lw3 The Drifters songs soared into the worldwide top 10 many times during the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Their hits include classics like Under The Boardwalk, Save the Last Dance for Me, Kissing in the Back Row, Spanish Harlem, This Magic Moment, Up on the Roof, There Goes my Baby and On Broadway. You can catch The Drifters performing in the Macquarie Room at CARDIFF PANTHERS on Friday with MO-TUNES. Doors will open at 7.30pm and tickets are available at the club.
