Mentals On Another Crazy Tour

Mentals On Another Crazy Tour

Who: Mental As Anything
Where: Western Suburbs Leagues Club
When: Thursday March 18, 2004

THERE will be plenty of chances to party when classic Australian band MENTAL AS ANYTHING presents three dates across the Hunter Region this week.

After 27 years of playing their Australian brand of party music around the nation and the world, the five-piece has embarked on yet another tour.

This time the band will cover the East Coast and play in the Hunter at WESTS LEAGUES CLUB tomorrow night, SOLDIERS POINT BOWLING CLUB on Friday night and finish up at BELMONT 16 FOOT SAILING CLUB on Saturday night.

In a recent edition of the Woolgoolga Times the band was described as ``Aussie rock legends''.

As flattering as it was, the band was forced to think about its image and in the end came up with a more appropriate comparison: more like a school rock eisteddfod that never stopped.

Mental As Anything has also decided to lay some old ghosts to rest in its latest recording project.

The band is set to record its favourite cover versions from the early days.

In keeping with the spirit of the old days, it is making the recording process as spontaneous and as brief as possible.

Spontaneous for the band could possibly involve the consumption of various alcoholic concoctions, but this is certainly consistent with its earlier history when the boys began playing only to meet girls and get free beer.

This is no doubt how Australia ended up with classics such as The Nips Are Getting Bigger and Too Many Times.

Mental As Anything revels in Australia's coastal environment and loves to play places that attract holiday makers who seek a dose of sunburn, a large dose of beer and the Mentals' brand of party music.

This year's tour, like previous years, will take in locations as diverse as Mallacoota, Yamba, Tweed Heads and, of course, Newcastle.

Fans can be sure that the endearing and enduring Mental as Anything will turn on a show which proves why the Australian public just can't get rid of them; they're just too much fun.

It has been customary for Mental As Anything to give its annual surfing sojourn a title but the band was unable to come up with an appropriate name this time.

In the end, the band decided to just go on tour again without a tag.

This time it's the MENTALS TOUR WITH NO NAME. Tickets are available from the venues.
