What: Amigos
Where: Civic Theatre
When: Friday June 18, 2004

AUSTRALIAN playwright DAVID WILLIAMSON will bring his latest production Amigos to CIVIC THEATRE NEWCASTLE next week.

Amigos tells the story of four champion rowers who won bronze at the 1968 Mexico Olympics and were dubbed by the press as ``The Four Amigos.'' Years later, one of the Amigos dies and the remaining three are constantly comparing themselves with one another.

Amigos stars GARY DAY, WENDY HUGHES, TONY LLEWELLYN-JONES, GARRY MCDONALD and NATASHA BEAUMONT, a former star of All Saints who has made the transition from television to the stage.

``TV was all I knew before this,'' Beaumont said.

``It's a totally new way of working for me.

``There are so many different techniques that most formally- trained actors take for granted.'' Beaumont said she has learned a lot from her co-stars since she joined the SYDNEY THEATRE COMPANY production earlier this year.

``Watching how they deliver their lines, how they take direction and the way they work has taught me so much,'' Beaumont said.

She plays the younger wife of Jim, played by Day, who divorces his first wife and throws away his relationship and friendship with another Amigo in the process.

McDonald stars as the third Amigo, who announces that he plans to write a tell-all book detailing the lives of the former Olympic champions.

Through comical drama, Amigos exposes the territorial behaviours of men anxiously driven to win in the game of life, whatever the cost and regardless of what their wives think.

Amigos will be staged at Civic Theatre Newcastle from June 18 to 19.

Bookings can be made by calling the theatre box office on 4929 1977.
