VITALBEATS is gearing up for what looks set to be the event's biggest show of 2004 when SONICANIMATION headline at the MERCURY HOTEL on Saturday night.
Touring on the back of its latest album Defective Perspective , Sonicanimation will perform live alongside 19 of Newcastle's finest DJs and two live electronic acts across three rooms.
Defective Perspective is the trio's fourth album and revisits the pounding electronic production that has previously been heard on singles such as E-Ville, I'm a DJ and Theopolis Thistler. In contrast, the album was recorded in the calm surrounds of a holiday house that the trio hired at Phillip Island, near Melbourne, for six weeks.
With ADRAIN CARTWRIGHT, RUPERT KEILLER and newest member RICHARD FALKNER writing separately, each became very protective of their work.
``We had only ever played live with Richard and he was the most protective of his music,'' Keiller said.
``I remember the three of us sitting and listening to one of his tracks and I desperately wanted to change it, but Richard was adamant that it sounded good and should remain untouched.
``Richard had a job in Melbourne on the weekends so we waited until he went home, took all his parts and remixed it while he was away.
``Now that's what I call a democratic decision.'' Defective Perspective was released earlier this year and features the single Get Up. Sonicanimation will present a live set in the main room at Vitalbeats on Saturday along with DJ PATSAN and ELECTROFUNK who will also play live.
The bill also includes DJs SPHINX, FALLON, CHRIS CALM, DJ MADD, KATO, and a live hip-hop performance by PHONETIK XPERIMENTZ and NAMELESS CREW featuring TUNZONE. Copies of the first Vitalbeats DVD will also be available on the night.
Advance tickets cost $18 from PDMS and the Mercury Hotel.
Otherwise they are $25 on the door from 10pm.
