The first annual MO AWARDS NATIONAL JUNIOR TALENT QUEST (MATS) will arrive in Newcastle next month in the search to find the Australian Junior Performer of the Year.
Aimed at performers aged between 13 and 18, MATS is renowned for nurturing, encouraging and preparing junior talent for l e on stage.
The nation-wide competition will host a number of heats and finals around the country in the lead up to the grand final on May 23.
MATS spokesperson JOHN CARRINGTON BROWNRIGG said Australia's diverse culture allowed the competition to uncover a broad range of talent.
``Being a multicultural nation lends diversity to the many great performances we see in our quest, making them unique to this ever developing Australian culture,'' Mr Carrington-Brownrigg said.
``We come together as one in this current generation of young Australians and these young performers have the world at their feet.
``Music and the arts are the soul of a nation and in our youth we hold the hope for an even better future.
'' Local hopefuls will have the chance to compete in the Newcastle leg of the search during a three-part series at SOUTHS LEAGUES CLUB.
Sections include solo, duo and group work in areas of song, dance and variety performance.
Heat one will take place on February 8, followed by heat two on February 22 and the final on March 28.
Winners will go on to compete against entrants from the Central Coast and Sydney's Northern Districts at MINGARA RECREATION CLUB on May 2.
The MATS Grand Final will be held at REVESBY WORKERS CLUB on May 23.
The winner will receive a talent development package containing cash and prizes valued at $10,000.
Prizes will also be awarded to runners up.
