SOUTH NEWCASTLE LEAGUES CLUB will host the final heat of the MO AWARDS TALENT SEARCH (MATS) on Sunday before next month's final.
The event aims to uncover the next wave of young talent, with categories open to under-13s and under-18s.
The competition will give young performers the chance to showcase a variety of skills including singing and dancing.
The contest will be judged by professionals from the entertainment industry.
Winners from the Newcastle final which takes place on March 28 will go on to compete against contestants from the Central Coast and Sydney's north at MINGARA RECREATION CLUB on May 2.
One overall winner will take out the MATS Junior Performer of the Year title when the grand final is held at REVESBY WORKERS CLUB on May 23.
The winner will also receive a talent development package worth $10,000 which will be specifically designed to help further their career.
MATS was introduced in mid 2003 with the aim of nurturing and rewarding junior talent.
``Being a multicultural nation lends diversity to the many great performances we see in our quest, making them unique to this ever-developing Australian culture,'' operations manager JOHN CARRINGTON BROWNRIGG said.
``We come together as one in this current generation of young Australians and these young performers have the world at their feet.
Organisers plan to make MATS a national competition, starting with the introduction of the next quest in June which will feature a new original music category.
It will crown one singer-songwriter as the MATS Junior Songwriter of the Year. More information and entry forms can be found online at matsaustralia.org.
