Dymyr Set To Open Things Up

Who: DyMyR
What: Open City
Where: Morrow Park Bowling Club
When: Saturday December 18, 2004

IT wasn't that long ago that ex-pat UK musician DYMYR said farewell to Newcastle in favour of Melbourne.

But he will be home this week to perform at the launch of his debut album, Open City , with his four-piece band at SALARIUM SPACE. WOLODYMYR `DYMYR' DYSZKANTS was an established artist in the UK, supporting the likes of BOB DYLAN before coming to Australia in 1999 and deciding to stay.

Dymyr moved to Newcastle, becoming familiar on the city's music scene and releasing a solo album in 2001 before moving to Melbourne with his partner.

In a career spanning many years of songwriting, Dymyr said he was immensely proud of the work he had done since forming if his new band.

``The album was always meant to be a demo but it notched up to become a really good promo,'' Dymyr said.

``I'm really proud of it.

It has a lot of energy, emotion and passion.'' Open City was recorded in September at a studio in Kotara over nine days.

Although Dymyr is based in Melbourne while the band remains in Newcastle, he hopes they can play in both cities.

It will be the band's final show this year when it launches Open City at Salarium on Saturday night.

While Dymyr said the band had no immediate plans for the New Year, he had been writing new material which he might preview this weekend.

Doors open at 8.30pm. Entry costs $16 at the door or $12 concession.
