AMICI FOREVER, billed as the world's first opera band, will return to Australia in October for an eight-date tour.
The group will perform at CIVIC THEATRE NEWCASTLE on Saturday, October 9.
Amici Forever was recently in Australia as part of a brief promotional tour to support the release of its new single, Prayer In The Night. The single is taken from the album, The Opera Band , which has gone platinum in Australia.
It spent 18 weeks at the top position on the ARIA Classical Chart and reached number two on the National ARIA Chart.
The group's five members, who come from the UK, South Africa and New Zealand, sing everything from opera pieces including Nessun Dorma , from Puccini's Turandot to an Italian version of Unchained Melody .
``When we perform, it's not like a classical recital, where we're standing quite formally,'' bass-baritone NICK GARRETT said.
``There's not that distance you can sometimes get in a classical performance. It's more relaxed. Think classical singing with a pop aesthetic.'' Joining Garrett are JO APPLEBY, TSAKANE VALENTINE, DAVID HABBIN and GEOFF SEWELL. Each of them has studied opera and sung professionally for years.
`There seems to be a huge market for people who like strong classical singing but don't want to sit through a full-length opera to get that sort of vocal power.'' Garrett said.``I suppose we're just giving it to them in bite-size chunks.'' Tickets to Amici Forever at Civic Theatre Newcastle go on sale on Tuesday, August 31 from the theatre on 4929 th1977.
